Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while remaining comfy too.
Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit
Debris can accumulate around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can impact air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down faster. We want your air conditioner to last as long as possible.
Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat
Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still being comfy. Whenever possible, use other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your
thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that creates more work for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another contributing factor that could lead to early system failure.
